My Inspiration for this collection:
You may be familiar with the name Ida B. Wells. She is most known as a trailer blazing investigative reporter and as an antilynching campaign crusader. She was a founder of the National Associate for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and of the National Association of Colored Women (NACW).
She was born enslaved, raised her siblings at age sixteen when her parents tragically passed away of illness, and later raised four children of her own. In spite of early hardship, Wells found the fortitude to use her craft to shine a light on untold truths, as a teacher, journalist, and activist.
However, this collection is not only to commemorate the accomplishments of Ida B. Wells. This collection was crafted to celebrate Wells’ ability to cultivate community and promote Black dignity, a magic that is less often noted but has perhaps left an even greater legacy.
The motto of the National Association of Colored Women was founded in part by Ida B. Wells: Lifting as we climb.
Render Free is a workspace and wellness club for self-identified Black + Brown women. B.Well, Render Free's Sponsored Membership Program, was created to sustain Founding Members through seasons in which financial scarcity threatens their access to resources.
Render Free recognizes that due to patriarchal and racist systems, Black + Brown women specifically often face underemployment, underpayment, and unforeseen financial needs. In these times of stress, the B.Well Sponsored Membership Program offers support to existing members through digital and in-person spaces to attune, atone, and sustain.
10% of all sales from this collection are contributed to Render Free and the B.Well Sponsored Membership Program.
